Michael Bublé is sporting some unexpected jewelry: an engagement ring. The 34-year-old crooner showed off his "man-gagement ring" at a concert last night, explaining that pre-wedding man-bands are traditional in Argentina, his fiancée's home country."The boy also wears the engagement ring (in Argentina)," Bublé said, displaying the silver band. "That's what she tells me anyway."
Bublé met his Argentine flame after a 2008 performance in Buenos Aires. The head of his record label wanted to introduce the Canadian singer to "Argentina's most famous actress," said one of Bublé's friends, People reports. "When he met her, he said it was love at first sight."
Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre - the star of one of Argentina's most popular soap operas - soon started dating Bublé. It was only a year after meeting her that the "Home" singer proposed to Lopilato, now 23.

Although his 2007 album was titled "Call Me Irresponsible," Bublé's proposal tactics couldn't have been more wholesome. A year after meeting Lopilato, the silky-voiced singer proposed to her in her native Argentina - in front of her family, no less!
But not just any diamond ring would do: Bublé actually designed the setting on her engagement ring. He probably didn't realize when he asked her that eventually he would be wearing an engagement ring, too.

But pre-wedding traditions take a different curve below the equator. In Argentina, the bride- and groom-to-be wear silver engagement rings, switching to gold once they actually wed. In Brazil, not only do both men and women wear rings, but the premarital ring and the wedding band are also the same ring. Brazilian engagement rings go on the right hand, and the lovebirds switch their rings to the left hand after tying the knot (how thrifty!)
South America isn't the only place where you can find men wearing pre-wedding bling, though. In a few European countries - such as Norway and Finland - "man-gagement" rings are par for the course.
